Anis Matta akhirnya terpilih sebagai Presiden baru Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) yang menggantikan Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq. Luthfi mengundurkan diri setelah ditetapkan sebagai tersangka kasus dugaan suap impor daging sapi. Setelah ditetapkan sebagai Presiden PKS, Anis Matta menyatakan mundur dari jabatannya sebagai Wakil Ketua DPR.
“Saya ajukan pengunduran diri saya sebagai Wakil Ketua DPR, dan juga undur diri dari keanggotan saya di DPR,” ujar Anis, Jumat (1/2/2013) dalam jumpa pers di kantor DPP PKS, Jakarta.
Anis menjelaskan, pengunduran dirinya itu karena menyadari ada tugas berat yang harus diembannya. “Saya sadar akan lakukan tugas besar, maka di dalam proses ini saya tidak ingin terganggu sehingga tugas saya tidak tercapai,” kata Anis yang sebelumnya menjabat sebagai Sekretaris Jenderal PKS ini.
Pemilihan Anis Matta sebagai Presiden PKS ditetapkan dalam forum Dewan Pimpinan Tingkat Pusat (DPTP) PKS. Anis Matta dipilih setelah Presiden PKS sebelumnya, Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq mengundurkan diri karena ditetapkan sebagai tersangka kasus dugaan suap impor daging. Luthfi pun kemudian mengundurkan diri. PKS kemudian menerima pengunduran diri yang disampaikan dalam bentuk lisan dan tertulis. Para petinggi PKS kemudian berkumpul untuk melakukan rapat di rumah Ketua Majelis Syuro Hilmi Aminuddin untuk membahas pengganti Luthfi. Diskusi tersebut berlangsung alot hingga dilanjutkan lagi pada Jumat ini hingga akhir shalat Jumat terpilihlah Anis Matta sebagai presiden yang baru.
